Bill has more than twenty five years experience in the law and has been a partner of the firm since 1987.
Bill acts for an extensive client base throughout the South Island in the areas of commercial, property, rural, trusts and asset planning, family, dispute resolution, relationship property and environmental law. Bill has many years of general practice experience and believes in identifying simple and pragmatic client driven solutions for complex scenarios that are presented.
A strong and confident orator, Bill appears regularly in the District Court, the Environment Court, the Family Court, at local and regional council hearings and has also made appearances in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Commissions of Inquiry. Many clients retain Bill because of his practical, sensible advice and finely tuned ability to unravel difficult situations, uncomplicate multifaceted problems and progress files to completion quickly and efficiently though his effective connections and knowledge of the district and the law.
As a court appointed mediator and lawyer for children, Bill possesses the interpersonal skills to compassionately deal with a wide range of sensitive issues affecting his clients in the family and dispute resolution areas of law, while being a highly respected and trusted adviser to clients on transactional, primary industry sector, succession planning and environmental work.
Bill is highly visible in the community and currently serves as the President of the North Otago Rugby Union and is a powerful advocate for provincial rugby throughout the country. Many community clubs and interest groups retain Bill as their adviser.
Married to Jacqui, the MP for Otago, Bill can often be seen enjoying coffee at local restaurants with his miniature schnauzer Jimmy never far behind. Whilst still retaining an interest in motorcycling and his beloved Harley Davidson, Bill is beginning to concentrate more time on fishing, his passion for cooking, diving for wrecks and his garden. Bill often invites clients for trips on his yacht the Pina Colada which is moored in the Marlborough Sounds.
